GAME:
Lifeguard Test – Designate space at least 10 meters in length and wide enough to accommodate 18″ for each kid. Line up enough lacrosse balls (or bar clamps) to accommodate each child in class in a row at least 18″ apart so that the athletes are close to each other but not touching. Have kids lay at least 10 meters away, face down away from the balls with hands at sides and arms straight. On “Go!” each kid sprints to retrieve a ball or clamp, performs the predetermined exercise (eg, a super-slow squat, two spinning burpees, or three jumping jacks) and then returns it to the trainer (a bucket is helpful for collection). The last child back becomes a helper and one lacrosse ball or bar clamp is removed from play. For additional difficulty, a bear crawl or broad jumps may be required to return the object. For increased difficulty as well as smaller groups, consider hiding the lacrosse balls or clamps in mildly challenging locations rather than placing them in a line.
